This month, the blog will highlight exciting environmental events happening all over the world. World Environment Day is on June 5, World Oceans Day is on June 8, Global Wind Day is June 15, and World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is June 17! In addition, RIO+20, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development is being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from June 20-22.
World environment days give people the chance to learn more about the theme of the day, such as oceans or wind, and to participate in local celebrations. They offer an opportunity to raise awareness about important environmental issues, meet other people interested in the subject, get links to educational resources, and, most importantly, to have fun celebrating the Earth! Sometimes these events center around community projects, such as cleaning up trash on a beach or starting a recycling program. Whatever the celebration, taking action is an important part of these environmental campaigns.
Have you ever participated in an environmental event in your community?
